Heartwood Bursary
From the time of its founding in 1947, Naramata Centre has sought to make its programs available to all persons. We believe that the Centre’s programs offer life-enriching experiences, and we seek to offer support for those who may be prevented from participating due to disabilities or a lack of financial resources.
The Heartwood Bursary was created in 1987, by donations from individuals who wished to express their gratitude for the work of Naramata Centre on the occasion of its 40th Anniversary. It also includes special memorial gifts made in honour of a number of persons whose hearts were close to the life of the Centre: Sue Laverty, Bob McLaren, Kathlene Yetman, and Kathleen Bailey. The Heartwood Bursary continues to welcome contributions and bequests.
Applications to the Heartwood Bursary Fund will be treated confidentially and considered with care and respect. Funds available are limited. We regret that we are unable to assist everyone who applies, or to the full extent we would wish. The following guidelines are followed:
Application
Bursaries will be allocated only in response to a written request. An application must be received by Naramata Centre at least two weeks prior to the program for which you wish to register. We may not be able to consider late applications. We will reply to all applications in writing.
Limits
Bursaries will be made available to support participation in any Centre Program. The amount of support provided generally will not exceed 30% of course fees, including accommodation and meals or $300 ($600 for Winter Session applicants), whichever is less. We cannot provide support to an applicant more than once in a calendar year.
Priorities
The intent is that the fund be used primarily to support low-income persons and in particular young adults, families with young children, and persons with disabilities and/or their caregivers.
Please note that additional funding may be available through a local United Church congregation and/or from a United Church Conference Office.
